Description
Philodendron Selloum, also known as Philodendron bipinnatifidum or Tree Philodendron, is a tropical plant native to South America, particularly Brazil. It is known for its large, deeply lobed leaves that can give a dramatic, lush appearance to any indoor or outdoor space. The leaves are glossy, dark green, and can grow up to 3 feet long and 2 feet wide. Here are some care tips to help you keep your Philodendron Selloum healthy and thriving:
What You Get: The very similar plant that is in the pictures of the same size in a 10” Pot
Care Tips:
1. Light
Indoors: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves.
Outdoors: It can grow in partial shade. In tropical climates, it can be placed under the canopy of taller trees for dappled sunlight.
2. Watering
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil are dry. Reduce watering during the winter when the plant's growth slows down.
Overwatering can lead to root rot, so ensure the pot has good drainage.
3. Humidity
High humidity levels are ideal. Regular misting or placing the plant near a humidifier can help maintain the necessary humidity.
If the leaf edges start to brown, it might be an indication that the air is too dry.
4. Temperature
Prefers temperatures between 65-80°F (18-27°C). It can tolerate brief periods of lower temperatures but should not be exposed to frost.
Avoid placing it near cold drafts or air conditioning vents.
5. Soil
Use a well-draining, peat-based potting mix. A mix designed for aroids or houseplants works well. Adding perlite or orchid bark can improve aeration.
6. Fertilization
Fertilize monthly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength.
Reduce feeding during the fall and winter when the plant's growth slows.
