Description

Sansevieria's, commonly referred to as snake plants or mother-in-laws tongues, are easy-to-care for houseplants that are a staple to any collection. Sansevieria Masoniana or "Whale Fin" sansevieria, are an uncommon variety often sought after for their long paddle-shaped leaves (hence the name) that grow to impressive sizes at maturity. Like most sansevieria's, they require little to thrive once established and serve as statement plants when placed in the home.

What do you receive: The same plant that is in the images.

CARE TIPS -

LIGHT:
Place your Shark Fin Sansevieria in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate low light conditions, but it will grow best and maintain its characteristic appearance with more light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.

WATER AND SOIL:
-Allow to dry out between watering. Water moderately but consistently during the growing season. Reduce watering during the winter months. Prefers a well draining soil.
-Water sparingly every 2 - 3 weeks.
-The whale fin is pretty thirsty, especially in the spring and summer months when the air is drier and the temperatures are warmer. As such, be sure to allow the plant to dry out between watering. When the plant is completely dry, give the plant a good soak.
-In autumn and winter you can revert to watering once every 4 weeks.

TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY:
To care for a Whale Fin Sansevieria provide a temperature between 65-75ºF (18-24°C) and bright indirect light as well as average humidity between 40-50%

SOIL AND FERTILIZER:
The ideal soil type for Sansevieria Whale Fin care is one that drains 100% the minute it is watered using gravel, sand, pumice and per lite.
If you choose to use a fertilizer, a mix for succulents or cactus is appropriate. Dilute it to one-quarter strength and only use it when you water your plant. Do not let fertilizer sit on the roots of the plant because they can’t uptake the nutrients fast enough and the roots will burn. In most cases, you are better off watering your plant correctly and providing the perfect light conditions rather than trying to force growth through the use of fertilizer.

NOTE:
The "Whale Fin' takes minimal care so it it a perfect plant for a Housewarming Gift if your not certain of the experience of the new homeowner, or to impress a plant master!
The large surface area of the plant makes this air purifying plant super efficient!
